We find ourselves in a very testing time at the moment and unfortunately, as many of my patients fall into the vulnerable or older category, I have been forced to close my studio in order to protect them. This got me thinking about ways I could continue to support both current and new patients, as providing care is vital for people to maintain their health during the COVID-19/Corona Virus pandemic.

As a fully qualified Chinese Medicine practitioner, I am really happy to provide Skype/FaceTime/Messenger video consultations in exactly the same way in which I would normally do physically in my studio. Obviously I am unable to needle you from a distance (my aim on the blowpipe through a letter box is poor!!) but in every other way, it is business as usual. I am able to provide information on acupressure points that you can use instead of me physically needling you, indeed this is how I treat young children and those who are needle phobic when they physically attend my studio. My deep knowledge of Chinese Medicine will allow me to prescribe an acupressure treatment specifically for you and your set of symptoms and I have a wealth of experience in helping patients accurately locate the acupressure points.

During a normal consultation I carry out what is know as a FTD or Full Traditional Diagnosis, during which I ask lots of questions about you, your illness, your lifestyle, diet, digestion, sleep, medications etc which allow  me to build a really detailed picture of your health and where your difficulties lie. This helps me to devise a treatment plan individually designed to meet your needs and return you to the balance of health. My plan will include dietary advice, (foods can harm just as easily as they can heal and we can often make a huge difference to your health by removing a few offending items or by adding some that may be lacking.) I always provide lifestyle advice to my patients, and during this period, it will be of even more importance than ever when we are self isolating. I will also give exercise information to keep you fit and moving. Depending on who you are, this may include more gentle approaches such as learning Qigong or Tai-chi (don't worry I will send you the links) or I may suggest some more vigorous forms of exercise (again I will send you the links) Sometimes, where appropriate, I will also offer herbal advice. The acupuncture needle usually plays a role in this but much can be done during these trying times to keep you well without ever placing a needle in you. Obviously the needle normally plays a role in fine tuning you, but it is better to do everything else I would normally suggest during a consultation, and use acupressure than it would be to have no treatment at all. It is also a fabulous opportunity for me to think of innovative other ways to keep you fighting fit and help you come through this period with Body, Mind and Spirit well and intact, ready to embrace our wonderful world once the danger has passed.

During this time where some of us are holed up inside, (I am too due to my son having a suppressed immune system and am needing to keep him shielded from the virus, so I am all too aware of how trying this situation is and what you are facing on a day to day basis) I am offering my services at half my usual price. I wish to be fully accessible to all who wish to use me at this testing time. A full face to face consultation using any suitable media, including telephone, will be £30 and any follow up appointments will be only £20. Once the pandemic has passed I will be happy to continue to see you in person in the studio where we can add acupuncture to your treatment schedule.

If you would like to discuss what I can offer or how I can help you, I am more than happy to offer a quick 15 minute telephone chat, just drop me a line and we'll arrange a convenient time.

Hello and welcome, it’s great to see you!

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Acupuncture are one of the oldest continuous health care systems known to man. This ancient healing modality was developed in China thousands of years ago by clever Chinese doctors who had already developed a deep understanding of the body, it’s inner and outer workings and methods of how to heal it, thousands of years before the advent of Western Medicine as we know it today.

Since then this Far Eastern knowledge has continued to grow and be refined to give us the wonderful healing method we use today. Interestingly, acupuncture is used by more people, in more countries, than any other healing modality!

Modern technology continues to scientifically prove the efficacy of Acupuncture and the existence of the meridian systems used by those very first ancient practitioners, and its use is becoming more and more accepted in the West as a real alternative to the drug treatments of Western Medicine. Indeed it is now recognised by NICE (the National Institute for Clinical Excellence) for its therapeutic effects and under PSA (Professional Standards Authority) guidelines, GP’s can now recommend acupuncture with PSA recognised acupuncturist’s such as myself.

Acupuncture has rapidly become the most popular and trusted of all alternative medicines and beautifully complements Western Medical approaches in treating illness and disease, however the ability of Acupuncture as an independent health care system in its own right must not be under estimated.

Acupuncturists use TCM to look at the body, mind and spirit as a whole rather than as separate entities, as is often seen in the Western medicine model. It is this method of diagnosis that allows us, as practitioners, to give our patients such wonderful results. You may come to see me with physical symptoms such as a painful back and leave feeling wonderfully energised, pain free and clear of other bothersome symptoms you may not even have been aware that acupuncture can solve. For more information on each of the therapies included under the TCM umbrella please click on the links above.

An important note on training.

You will notice on my pages that I proudly display the BAcC logo which means I am a full member of The British Acupuncture Council. The requirements for entry to this are very high and ensure that you can rest assured that any acupuncturist who displays this logo is trained to the very highest standards and that the treatment you receive will be of the very highest quality. It also means I am bound to adhere by their incredibly high standards and am covered by very comprehensive insurance.

The British Acupuncture has a fabulous website that the general public are encouraged to browse. It contains many interesting articles on acupuncture. www.acupuncture.org.uk

Not every person who claims to provide acupuncture will be trained to these high standards, there are some very questionable courses advertised on social media that can be completed in as little as 5 hours. I often encounter people who say “I had acupuncture but it didn’t work” , I wonder why!!

Another note worth mentioning is the difference between the types of acupuncture provided by different practitioners. I am trained in an integrated Five Element and TCM approach, which gives me the advantage of being able treat mind, body and spirit as a whole, using meridians and acupuncture points. This training provides me with the ability to treat a huge range of afflictions from skin conditions, mental health complaints and headaches to painful knees and backs, and many things in between. Some other practitioners such as physiotherapists, chiropractors and osteopaths may also make use of the acupuncture needle, however their approach and training is very much shorter and very different to that of a traditional acupuncturist and the emphasis of their treatment using the needle, is to break muscle spasms and relieve pain. I feel it is very important that the general public are aware of the differences in approach so they are able to make an informed decision on the best type of practitioner and course of treatment for them.
